Respawn Reintroduces Titanfall’s CTF Mode After Removing It
For years, competitive shooters have struggled to introduce context into a genre centered on brief flashes of action repeated ad infinitum. In practice, the brief campaign of two futuristic armies clashing on distant planets is a limited framework for storytelling. The more notable narrative innovation introduced by Titanfall is the match structure itself. By providing an organic form that includes a beginning, middle, and end to virtually every match, Respawn Entertainment ratchets up the dramatic and competitive potential of the online shooter. The fast-paced conflicts start out small as pilots drop into battle and rush to take position. As the minutes pass, the first titans begin to drop, adding increased danger to the scene. By the end, massive explosions rock the whole battlefield as nuclear detonations and missile barrages burst to life.

Respawn removed both the Capture the Flag and Pilot Hunter game modes from matchmaking last week, making them available only via variety mode and private matches. Our first step was removing playlists that were effectively broken.
The second step is to continue refinement of our matchmaking. In order to remedy the low player count issue plaguing CTF, Respawn has made changes to the matchmaking service, which will now implement broader region searches to fill those empty lobbies. Titanfall gets private matches in new patch
We were able to get some quality time with the near-final build of the Xbox One version of the game this weekend, though, playing alongside fellow journalists and developers from EA and Respawn. That time was enough to develop some general impressions of the title beyond our extensive time with the beta. The biggest addition over the beta release is in the campaign mode, which takes nine normal six-on-six multiplayer matches on specific maps and dresses them up with a thin veneer of story.
A hardpoint area-capturing match might turn into a battle to secure anti-aircraft guns to protect a planet from an invasion or to protect the invading force, on the other side.
No game can ever live up to the kind of hype generated by Titanfall. though this did give the opportunity to see the matchmaking in progress. Pilot Hunter mode sounds more interesting than it is, as it’s just a case of the.
The development team at Respawn Entertainment acknowledges that it might have made a mistake by removing the Capture the Flag mode from Titanfall on the PC and says that it is getting ready to reinstate the mode and make a number of other changes to improve the matchmaking experience in the long term. The company has devoted a long blog post to the issue in order to make sure that all members of the community who are upset and expressed their anger get a chance to understand the reasoning of the studio and how it is constantly aiming to improve the game.
Respawn Entertainment explains the difference between using a classic server browser and the automated matchmaking it has created for Titanfall and how the Microsoft-powered cloud-based tech is designed to make the process quick. They explain that, “While there isn’t anything inherently wrong with a server browser, we’ve chosen to take the onus of finding a good match off the player.
The ideal goal of a good matchmaking system is to have a complete view of all currently joinable games to find you the perfect match. The studio says that it is planning to give gamers more options when it comes to the customization they can do for private matches. The reintroduction of Capture the Flag will come with an extended search area for matches, which means that gamers might end up with groups from other continents with less than optimal ping time and that at times, the skill level will be unbalanced.
It seems like the Pilot Hunter mode is not going to be reintroduced to Titanfall on the PC, probably because the player numbers are even lower and there’s no solution to make it viable. We plan to keep the playlist selection of Titanfall fresh and fun, with engaging new ways to play and switch-ups to old favorites.
Titanfall has just received its first downloadable content pack filled with maps, called Expedition, and the developers have promised that at least another two will be deployed this year. The first-person shooter is available on the Xbox One, the Xbox and the PC and rumors are suggesting that a sequel is already in the works.

Titanfall ditches separate CTF/Pilot Hunter modes: “not widely used; overlong wait times”
New to Shacknews? Signup for a Free Account. In the wee hours of the night on Thursday, Respawn made a stealthy announcement that they would be removing Capture the Flag and Pilot Hunter modes from the PC version of Titanfall. After allowing players some time to digest the news, the developer is offering an explanation for why the game modes were removed, while also emphasizing that more content is forthcoming.
When Titanfall came out back in March, I recommended it mostly on the strength of its Capture the Flag mode. I now retract that recommendation. Developers Respawn Entertainment have removed the ability to play both Capture the Flag and Pilot Hunter modes on PC, except through the Variety option which picks your mode at random or Private Match beta which pretty much requires that you have eleven friends all waiting to play with you.
Players trying to access these modes had overlong wait times to find other users and it was making for a poor experience. We want to make sure that not only is there compelling content in the playlists we offer, but that the experience of joining a match works well. Our goal is to have a wide variety of playlists that are popular and changing. That said, we will not remove modes from Private Matches, so there will always be the option to select them for competitive and personal play.
Thanks for your understanding as we try to make Titanfall a better experience for everyone. Not being able to play my favourite mode at all is not a better experience than having to wait five minutes to find a match. What are those? Two new modes which use maps that require you to buy the newly released Expedition DLC.
Is this game dying, or does the matchmaking system suck?
A Titan’s insignia refers to a symbol or emblem that allows customization for a Titan in Titanfall. These are little graphics that are shown on your titan, most commonly and easily seen while rodeoing your titan. Earned insignia are kept through generations. All insignias are listed below. As a result, Glyph cannot be obtained.
No sign of Pilot Hunter, but Titanfall players on PC will be able to find Capture the Flag playlists again. Matchmaking has been altered too.

Anything else and I’m sitting for an hour or more with no luck. Netcode can be fixed. A dying community, not so much unless you have amazing DLC, but even then, that’s rare. Any help or info will be much appreciated.

Respawn Removing Game Modes from Titanfall
Chris Thursten questioned Titanfall’s staying power in his review back in March, and that staying power is unlikely to be invigorated by Respawn’s decision to remove the Capture the Flag and Pilot Hunter modes from the PC version of the game. Well, that’s not entirely accurate – they’ve removed both modes as separate playlists, but they’re still around in the Variety game mode, or if you decide to play a private match.
The reason for their removal? They were “not widely used” in the PC version, causing “overlong wait times” for players who wanted to join.
Enter Titanfall — a game that seeks to shake up the genre with Even in the Pilot Hunter mode where the AI doesn’t actually count towards the into another game if my matchmaking efforts are unsuccessful for the first time.
Titanfall is a multiplayer first-person shooter video game developed by Respawn Entertainment and published by Electronic Arts. The game was anticipated as the debut title from developers formerly behind the Call of Duty franchise. In Titanfall , players control “Pilots” and their mech -style Titans, and fight in six-on-six matches set in the war-torn outer space colonies of the Frontier.
The game is optimized for fast-paced, continual action, aided by wall-running abilities and populations of computer-controlled soldiers. Up to 50 characters can be active in a single game, and non-player activity is offloaded to Microsoft’s cloud computing services to optimize local graphical performance. The game’s development team began work on the title in , and their Titan concept grew from a human-sized suit into a battle tank exoskeleton.
The team sought to bring “scale, verticality, and story” to its multiplayer genre through elements traditionally reserved for single-player campaigns. Titanfall won over 60 awards at its E3 reveal, including a record-breaking six E3 Critics Awards and “Best of Show” from several media outlets. It also won awards at Gamescom and the Tokyo Game Show. Titanfall received generally favorable reviews.
Reviewers praised its balance , Smart Pistol weapon, player mobility, and overall accessibility for players of all skill sets, but criticized its thin campaign, disappointing artificial intelligence, and lack of community features and multiplayer modes. Critics considered the game a successful evolution for the first-person shooter genre but did not agree as to whether the game delivered on its anticipation. It was released on October 28, Titanfall is a shooter game played from a first-person perspective.

Getting into the details In a blog post, Respawn detailed why they removed Pilot Hunter and Capture the Flag from playlists. According to Respawn, they removed these modes ” because hardly anyone was playing them and matches were nearly impossible to find. With that few players attempting to connect, our matchmaking would just sit there, spinning forever, waiting to find a game to play.
This is a bad experience for the user, and so we had to look at how we fix it. Our first step was removing playlists that were effectively broken. Our best feedback has come from observing the game in the wild. The blog post states that despite there being problems with the servers, people still wanted to play CTF in Titanfall.
Thus, Respawn decided to bring back the game mode after a matchmaking update. The blog post goes into detail on how Respawn is working the servers, and why these modes did not work. You can read that here. I really enjoyed the mode, and it is one of my favorites. It is also mentioned that Respawn is working on new modes and variations of existing modes.
